BOOK SOFT LAUNCHING: COVID-19 HANDLING MANAGEMENT ON NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY, MAY 2ND 2020

BOOK SOFT LAUNCHING: COVID-19 HANDLING MANAGEMENT ON NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY, MAY 2ND 2020

The health crisis due to COVID-19 lead to a handling management crisis. The global pandemic of COVID-19 has led to uncertain management practices in almost all countries, regardless of the level of economic and technological progress and political character. The standard of crisis management system loses its relevance, forcing the government to adopt policies that tend to be trial and error. Indonesia faces similar challenges, even worsen by the pandemic politicization and the neglect of science at the beginning of the crisis, limited economic capacity, and health service system.

The book of "The COVID-19 Handling Governance in Indonesia: Preliminary Study" published by FISIPOL UGM collaborate with Gadjah Mada Press or UGM Press is intended to discuss: 1) What are the dynamics of governance and policy handling of COVID-19 in Indonesia?, 2) How was the response of various parties (government, industry, and society) while facing COVID-19?, 3) What forms of public communication and knowledge debate take place in handling COVID-19?

This book consists of 18 Chapters, written by 37 lecturers/researchers in UGM. Arranged in 4 core parts, as well as introduction and cover. In the introduction section, it begins with 'the health crisis lead to management crisis'. The four core parts of the book include; the response of governments and international institutions, sectoral response and resilience, marginal groups and social capital, and the dimensions of public knowledge and communication. This book in general shows the dark side of open management as the impact of COVID-19, and the uncertainty that impacts all actors and sectors in responding to it. But in the middle of uncertainty, the strength and initiative of various parties emerged, especially the community, which reflected the strengthening of solidarity at the sub-national, national, and global levels.

The world will no longer be the same after COVID-19. On the one hand, COVID-19 presents opportunities for more equitable and sustainable social, political, and economic change. But on the other hand, the COVID-19 crisis could be used by old oligarchs to survive and gave birth to new oligarchs (especially based on digital technology) that would lead to the presence of new inequality structures.
