BOOK REVIEW DISCUSSION "POLA PIKIR SISTEMIK UNTUK MENYONGSONG INDUSTRI 4.0"

(Wed, 28th of May 2019), Master of Technology for Sustainable Development of UGM collaborated with River and Ecology Club, Department of Civil Engineering, UGM Vocational School held book review discussion "Pola Pikir Sistemik" written by Dr-Ing.Ir. Agus Maryono in Auditorium of the UGM Postgraduate School. This event was attended and reviewed directly by the author, Dr.-Ing. Ir. Agus Maryono, who is a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, SV UGM, and also a lecturer in the Master of Technology for Sustainable Development UGM, who has written more than seven books that have been published by UGM Press. This book review discussion was attended by dozens of students across disciplines and levels, academics, and the community.

The book "Pola Pikir Sistemik" is completed by the author in response to the author's fidgetiness about the concept and implementation of the systemic mindset that is still often forgotten by the public. The main problem facing society today is the mindset that is still limited to sectoral thinking barriers and is less appreciative of systemic integralistic mindset.

This is why the systemic mindset is important, because in the world of thought, science may be separated. But in real life the sciences are intertwined. According to the author, science cannot stand alone. Every element in science such as human organs that influence each other. That is why interdisciplinary science is needed as much as possible.

Problems that occur in the community will be resolved properly if systemic thinking is applied in overcoming it. Real problems in society cannot be solved if they only refer to one discipline. For example, in overcoming the problems of floods, landslides and drought, we need the collaboration of civil engineering, hydraulics, biology and social science so that the resulting solution can solve the problem without arising other problems.

Systemic mindset is a combination of thinking world and living world. Therefore, all components of society are expected to implement systemic thinking, with this the 17 Points Sustainable Development Goals can be realized. With this "Pola Pikir Sistemik" Book Review, new awareness is expected to emerge in collaboration and synergy in finding solutions to the nation's problems. (Editor: Gesang Anita CW)
